Based on the AR-Pilot project Confronting Realities. Working on Cinematic Autosociobiographies (AR Pilot 2018/19), (Not) Entering Every Room aims to explore the emotions of shame and pride in the context of social class.
The task of this artistic research project is to explore, describe and create different representations and ways of representing shame and pride in the context of social class. The concrete goal of the project is to create an artistic and scientific cartography of shame and pride in the context of social class. Habitus, localities, body(ies), biographies, characteristic style, gestures are understood as “physical and mental solidifications” for the boundaries of the classes that form them and are to be explored in their multidimensionality. Production, consolidation, communication of class shame and pride as well as the role of artistic production and expression in this context are to be explored and questioned. Special attention will be given to the role of gesture and ritual as “practical implicit knowledge inscribed in the body”, which Michael Polanyi describes as “tacit knowledge” – knowledge that is bound to experience and cannot be verbalized. Reference points and sources are not only the auto-sociobiographies of the project team members, but also film and cultural studies as well as sociological considerations and literary works by Didier Éribon and Annie Ernaux, among others.

Eine künstlerisch-wissenschaftliche Exploration zu (Klassen-)Scham und Stolz

Aufbauend auf das AR-Pilot Projekt Confronting Realities. Working on Cinematic Autosociobiographies (AR Pilot 2018/19) möchte (Not) Entering Every Room die Emotionen Scham und Stolz im Kontext der sozialen Klasse erforschen.

Aufgabe dieses künstlerischen Forschungsprojekts ist das Explorieren, Beschreiben und Kreieren von verschiedenen Repräsentationen und Darstellungsweisen von Scham und Stolz im Kontext der sozialen Herkunft. Konkretes Ziel des Projekts ist das Erstellen einer künstlerisch-wissenschaftlichen Kartographie von Scham und Stolz im Kontext der sozialen Herkunft. Habitus, Örtlichkeiten, Körper(lichkeiten), Biographien, Duktus, Gesten werden als “physische und psychische Verfestigungen” für Grenzlinien der Klassen verstanden, die diese formen und in ihrer Mehrdimensionalität erforscht werden sollen. Herstellung, Verfestigung, Kommunikation von Klassenscham und -stolz sowie die Rolle der künstlerischen Produktion und des künstlerischen Ausdrucks in diesem Zusammenhang sollen ausgelotet und hinterfragt werden. Spezielle Aufmerksamkeit soll der Rolle des Gestus und des Rituals als „praktisches, dem Körper eingeschriebenes implizites Wissen“ zukommen, welches Michael Polanyi als „tacit knowledge“ – erfahrungsgebundenes, nicht verbalisierbares Wissen beschreibt. Bezugspunkte und Quellen bilden hierbei nicht nur die Autosoziobiografien der Projektteammitglieder, sondern ebenso film- und kulturwissenschaftliche wie soziologische Überlegungen sowie literarische Arbeiten von u.a. Didier Éribon oder Annie Ernaux.
